Doc. Dr. Özlem Doğuş VARLI


Özlem DOĞUŞ VARLI is a lecturer at Uludag University State Conservatory. She completed her bachelor's degree at Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory and also MA in Advanced Studies in music Department on ethnomusicology. She also completed her PhD in musicology and music theory in the same institute, following a completion of a post-doctoral research project in Oxford University Music Faculty with the advisor of Prof. Dr. Martin Stokes. Her primary areas of research are music and gender, music education, archival research, popular culture and music studies, Anatolian Turkoman, Bosnian people in Turkey, migration and cultural analysis of vocal performance (especially traditional music). She is a founder head of Ethnomusicologoy Association in Turkey. Her research works includes lots of attendence of international syposiums, articles, section of books. Also her book, “Fadime Kimdir?”, book chapter, 2008, "Anatolian Turkoman Women' Identity and Music" was published by Lambert Publication (2012), “İllüzyon – Cumhuriyet’in Klasik Müzik Serüveni” , book chapter, ed: Fırat Kutluk (2016), “Müzik ve Kadın” (2016), book chapter, ed. Şehvar Beşiroğlu.

On the other hand Özlem Doğuş Varlı was a theater actress between 1993-2000 years who ended theater life with a musical as lead actress. She is a vocal performer who tries to perform traditional music, mostly Turkish music. She has lots of published collective albums and has performed in national- international concerts . She is also preparing her personal album lately.
