Doç. Dr. Onur Güneş AYAS He was born in Edirne/Turkey in 1981. He received his BA from İstanbul University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of International Relations. He completed his master and doctorate in the sociology department of the same university. The title of his master and doctorate dissertations are respectively “The Western Question in Dostoevsky: Russian Idea and Universality” and “Continuity and Change in the Classical Turkish Music Tradition: Patterns of Adaptation and Resistance against the Westernizing Policies of the Early Republican Regime.” He translated many books from writers such as Aimé Césaire, Arnaldo Momigliano, Werner Jaeger, Carter V. Findley, Kemal Karpat, Asin Palacios, James Gelvin, Arendt Lijphart, Daniel Goffman and Virginia H. Aksan. He wrote four books and many articles on fields and subjects such as sociology of music, sociology of culture, historical sociology, Western question in Turkey and elsewhere, post-colonialism and Turkish modernization. In 2015, one of his books titled “The Sociology of Turkish Musical Reform: Continuity and Change in the Turkish Classical Musical Tradition” won the prestigious Itri prize from the Ministry of Culture in the category “the book and writer of the year”. He is now working at Yıldız Technical University, sociology department. |
